NetTools - Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 August 2026
SUMMARY
NetTools does not have an account system, does not ask who you are, and does not
send your diagnostic results anywhere. Everything you measure stays on your
device. The app shows ads, and the advertising SDK collects device identifiers as
described below.
WHAT STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE
Your saved results (the last 100 runs - hosts, addresses, speeds, timings) are
stored only in the app's private storage on this device. They are never uploaded,
never backed up to us, and are deleted when you clear history or uninstall the
app. Your app settings are stored the same way.
WHAT LEAVES YOUR DEVICE, AND WHY
NetTools makes network requests only when you run a tool, and only to the
destination that tool needs:
- Ping, traceroute and the port checker send packets to the host you type in.
That host is chosen by you, and NetTools sends it nothing but the probe itself.
- DNS lookups are sent to the DNS server your network provides, or to the server
you pick in Settings (Cloudflare, Google or Quad9). The domain you look up is
visible to that server, exactly as it would be for any other app on your
device.
- The internet speed test transfers data to and from Cloudflare's public
speed-test service (speed.cloudflare.com). The upload consists of randomly
generated bytes; nothing from your device is sent. Cloudflare receives your IP
address as it would for any web request. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies to
that request.
- The public IP lookup, which runs only when you tap the button on the IP
information screen, asks Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) what address it sees. The answer
is shown on screen, held in memory only, and is never written to your history
or to disk.
NetTools does not collect, store or transmit your location, contacts, photos,
files, messages, or any other personal data.
PERMISSIONS
- Internet and network state: required to run any network tool and to report what
kind of connection you are on.
- Wi-Fi state: to show link speed, frequency band and signal strength.
- Precise location: Android only reveals the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) to apps
that hold location permission. NetTools requests it only when you tap "Show
network name" on the Wi-Fi screen, uses it only to read that name, and never
collects, stores or transmits your location. Declining it leaves every other
feature working.
ADVERTISING
NetTools is free and supported by ads served through Google AdMob. The Google
Mobile Ads SDK may collect and use device identifiers (including the Advertising
ID), coarse location derived from your IP address, and information about ad
interactions in order to serve and measure ads. This data is collected and shared
by Google, not by us, and is governed by Google's privacy policy:
https://policies.google.com/privacy
No information you enter into NetTools - no host name, domain, IP address or
measurement - is ever included in an ad request.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland,
NetTools shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and you can
change your choice at any time from Settings, under "Ad privacy options".
CHILDREN
NetTools is not directed at children and requests non-child-directed, PG-rated ad
content.
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
All app data is local. Clearing history in Settings deletes saved results
immediately. Uninstalling the app removes everything NetTools has stored. To
delete advertising data held by Google, use your device's Google settings or
contact Google directly.
CHANGES
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here and the date
