Cross-border cooperation for the enhancement of alpine plants as sources of bioactive compounds
Project duration: 02/2024 – 01/2026
This project is co-financed by the European Union within the INTERREG Program ITALY-AUSTRIA (2021-2027)
ITAT-11-007
The project develops the first database for the cross-border region on the phytochemical composition, nutritional values, and functional properties (antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and healing activities) of natural extracts obtained from representative samples of over 30 plants.
What are we working on
WP1 focuses on project coordination, partner communication, and management support, while ensuring result dissemination through publications, conferences, and media to highlight research value and collaboration.
WP2 focuses on defining the sampling plan for 30 alpine plants, obtaining extracts using conventional and innovative techniques, and their chemical and antioxidant characterization, with the goal of classifying the plants based on their antioxidant capacity.
WP3 focuses on testing plant extracts to evaluate their antioxidant potential, antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties, and wound healing effects, using human cell systems and in vitro models.
WP4 focuses on testing the antioxidant activity of plant extracts in real food systems and analyzing their mechanisms of action, while creating an accessible database with the fingerprint of the alpine plants from the cross-border region.
