NetPulse ("the extension," "we," "our") is a Chrome extension developed by SuryaCreates that measures and displays internet connection quality — ping, jitter, packet loss, and download/upload speed — including an optional on-page overlay HUD. This policy explains what data NetPulse accesses, how it's used, and what it never does.
NetPulse does not collect, store, sell, or transmit any personal data to us or to any third party. All data NetPulse works with is processed and stored locally on your own device.
Network timing and size metadata (not content). To show live download/upload speed, NetPulse reads request/response metadata (such as byte sizes and timing) for network activity in your active browser tab. This is used only to calculate an aggregate speed figure (Mbps) shown to you in real time. NetPulse does not read, log, or store the content, URLs, or destinations of your web traffic.
Speed test results. When you manually run a speed test, or if you enable automatic periodic testing, NetPulse sends small amounts of test data to public speed-test endpoints (e.g. Cloudflare's speed test infrastructure) solely to measure your connection's throughput and latency. This is standard behavior for any speed-test tool and does not involve your personal browsing data.
Local settings and history. Your overlay style preferences (colors, layout, position, which sites the overlay is enabled on) and your speed-test history are saved using Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage) on your own device. This data:
Stays on your device
Is never transmitted to us or any third party
Can be cleared at any time from the extension's options page
Is removed automatically if you uninstall the extension
CSV export. If you choose to export your speed-test history, NetPulse generates a CSV file and saves it to your computer using Chrome's downloads API. This file is created and saved locally; it is not uploaded anywhere.
We do not collect personally identifiable information (name, email, address, etc.)
We do not collect authentication data, passwords, or credentials
We do not read, log, or transmit page content, browsing history, or personal communications
We do not collect location data
We do not use analytics or tracking services
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties
We do not use your data for advertising or creditworthiness/lending purposes
We do not use remote code; all extension logic ships within the extension package itself
NetPulse requests only the permissions needed for its single purpose (internet speed and network performance monitoring):
Permission
Purpose
storage
Save your local settings and speed-test history on-device
downloads
Let you export your history as a CSV file to your computer
scripting
Inject the optional overlay HUD into pages you enable it on
activeTab / tabs
Identify the current tab to toggle the overlay or relay test progress
alarms
Schedule periodic live-ping checks and optional auto-testing
webRequest
Read-only observation of request/response size metadata to compute live passive bandwidth (no blocking, no content access)
Host permissions (<all_urls>)
Allow the overlay and live bandwidth feature to work on any page you choose to enable them on
All data NetPulse stores (settings, history) remains on your device for as long as the extension is installed, or until you clear it manually via the options page. Uninstalling the extension removes this data.
NetPulse is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
