Are we Really so different?
“Are we really so different?” A question that mankind has been seeking an answer to for a long time. But still hasn’t been able to come to a conclusion! Great job! You can fly to space, but can’t solve a simple question! Back to my point, the word diversity means “different”, and being diverse and different has changed our ways of life in manners of responsibility and tolerance, letting us live harmoniously. Let’s look at it like this, being different is like food, and every type of cuisine is different and has its own specialties and tastes, we are different but that’s what makes us special, beautiful and unique! So smile!
My story is going to take you to India, Bangalore, “the garden city”, my birthplace. Today Bangalore is very different from what it used to be. Once upon a time, Bangalore was about, independent houses, spacious roads, pleasant weather and no Wi-Fi! all in black and white. But now let’s take a reality check into today’s Bangalore! Bangalore is so crowded! It’s one of the urban cosmopolitan centers of India with people from many cultures and nations because Bangalore has platefuls of opportunities from IT companies, just like the amount of the infamous bisi belle bath that’s served to you! Anyway, that’s what makes Bangalore so different from other cities and in the difference lies the beauty and diversity. Many people will describe Bangalore as something very different. In fact, they might just sum it up in one-word, overpopulation! But I see it differently, the city might have exploded in terms of population, and infrastructure may not be able to cope with the explosion. But in fact, the diverse nature has still magnetized many billion dollar companies and put them in a trance, so they can set up their work in the city. And, you should know the reason! The multi-cultural nature of the society maintains the responsibility and tolerance of the city while there is peace that triumphs amidst the difference and diversity of the heterogeneous population. This makes Bangalore unique and of course the crazy awesome mixed up place I know and I love.
Man is many things, but one thing he isn’t is being perfect! Our flaws are one of the things that makes us different! Don’t judge! Let’s take the example of communication, before the telephone people must have a had a jolly hard time talking to each other! Imagine talking from the UK to Asia! But after Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, communication was easy and man has kept advancing to the point where communication has helped us, stand up for each other, act responsibly and move towards living tolerantly! And that is one of the advantages of being different! But what is happening backstage? What has led to these different inventions? Its self-definition, people in this generation are able to be themselves and make life what they want it to be. Earlier if you were a potter’s son, you would have to inherit your fathers job! That would not allow you to be yourself and it would allow you to slip up, if you had no skill in the job! But now people choose what they want to do, people now are free and make life theirs! Isn’t that an advantage? Imagine what would have happened if Daniel Craig had become a singer or if David Beckham had become an artist! I don’t even want to think about it! It also promotes responsibility because you’re doing your job to the fullest and you’re doing it with passion, while messing up a few times! And passion is what brought along, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and many other things! If Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates hadn’t followed their dreams, chased it and pinned it to the ground and fulfilled them we wouldn’t have these amazing technologies! If they had never chased their dream and caught them, we wouldn’t be able to experience the inventions!
“Don’t underestimate yourself by comparing yourself with others, it’s our differences that make us unique.” It’s true! No two iris or DNA strand can be the same! Doesn’t that already show we’re different? Yes, we are really so different! We know how to live harmoniously, responsibly and tolerantly in a community. Our diverse nature has led us to many inventions that have helped us advance forward. Love yourself, no matter how different you feel, being unique is the key to life!
