With sandy beaches, emerald waters, and historical structures, Egmont Key is a must visit destination.
Egmont Key sits at the mouth of Tampa Bay and is only accessible by boat. It takes a pleasant 20 minute boat ride from Anna Maria Island to arrive there. After anchoring in shallow waters, it will be your time to explore the island and there’s so much to see and do. The Egmont Key used to guard the primary shipping lane in and out of the Tampa Bay and is home to a lighthouse and now abandoned military outpost Fort Dade. Both great to roam around and take photos of. While on the island, you will enjoy beautiful views, crystal clear water and nice sandy beaches. Snorkeling is very popular as well, so feel free to take your gear and explore the submerged part of the Fort. On your trip you will likely see some cool wildlife such as dolphins and stingrays. It is the national wildlife refuge so birding is very popular as well. But if you just want to chill, it is certainly a great place to relax and enjoy the shelling.
Don't forget to pack towels, sunscreen, drinking water and snacks to make your trip most comfortable. See you soon!
