This Privacy Policy describes how NerdPad ("we," "us," or "our") handles your information when you use the NerdPad Chrome Extension ("Extension"). Your privacy is important to us.
Data Storage: All your notes (titles, content, tags, dates) are stored locally on your computer using the browser's standard storage mechanisms (chrome.storage.local). This data is not transmitted to or stored on any external servers controlled by NerdPad.
Settings Storage: Your extension settings (theme preference, premium activation status, API key, etc.) are also stored locally on your computer via chrome.storage.local.
License Key Verification (Premium): If you purchase NerdPad Premium, you will enter a license key provided by Gumroad. To verify this key, the Extension sends the key you enter to a secure verification service hosted on Cloudflare Workers. This service then communicates only with Gumroad's API to check if the key is valid for the NerdPad Premium product and has not been refunded or disputed. The verification service does not store your license key long-term. The result (valid/invalid) is sent back to the Extension, which then stores your premium activation status locally.
AI Feature Usage (Premium): To use the AI features (summarization, chat, content generation, tag suggestions), you must activate Premium and provide your own API key from a third-party AI provider (e.g., Google Gemini via Google AI Studio) in the Extension's settings.
When you use an AI feature, the relevant text (e.g., note content, selected text, chat history, your typed message) and your provided API key are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider's API (e.g., https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com).
NerdPad does not act as an intermediary for these AI requests. We do not see, log, or store the content you send to the AI provider or the responses you receive. Your interaction with the AI provider is subject to that provider's own privacy policy and terms of service.
Your API key is stored locally using chrome.storage.local and is only used to make these direct calls to the AI provider on your behalf.
Analytics: NerdPad does not collect any personal information or usage analytics.
Permissions: The Extension requests necessary permissions (storage, contextMenus, tabs, host_permissions for the AI provider API) solely to provide its intended functionality.Â
Data Security: We rely on the security mechanisms provided by the browser's local storage to protect your locally stored data. Since sensitive data like API keys are stored locally, ensure your computer itself is secured.
Children's Privacy: NerdPad is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy: We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the Extension or on its web store listing. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
