Lions is an international service organisation. Lions run fundraisers, organise projects and provide practical help in their communities.
100% of money raised from the community goes back to the community. Lions members pay membership fees to cover the costs of running Lions.

You could make a difference here in Canberra and help people in Nepal. Your club could support young people and families, celebrate Nepalese culture, respond when disaster strikes, or create events and activities that bring people together.

Canberra has a strong and growing Nepalese community, with people of different ages, backgrounds, skills and experiences.
A Nepalese Lions club could bring more of those people together to share ideas, build connections and make a difference in Canberra and Nepal.

which causes you will support
how often you will meet

whether you meet in person, online, or both
how often you want to include social activities
whether families and children are included in activities

Being a Lion means contributing in a way that works with your life.
You don't have to attend every meeting or take part in every activity. Some people have more time to give than others, and that can change over time. What matters is being involved when and how you can.
Can I bring my own ideas?
Absolutely. Members decide together which causes, projects and activities their club takes on. Your ideas can help shape the club from the beginning.
Lions gives you access to established programs, resources and a worldwide network, but your club decides what matters to you.
Do I have to go to every meeting?
No. Meetings are important for making decisions, planning projects and staying connected, but you don't have to attend every one. Work, family and life still happen. What matters is staying involved and contributing when you can.
How much time do I need?
It depends on how involved you want to be. Some members help regularly, while others contribute to particular projects or activities when they have time.
Being a Lion should fit around your life, not take it over.
Do I have to help with every activity?
No. Choose the projects and activities that interest you and fit your availability. Members contribute in different ways, from helping at events to organising projects or using their particular skills.
Every contribution is valuable.
How much does it cost?
Lions members pay membership fees to help cover things such as insurance, administration, training and support.
This means money raised from the community can go back to the community.
Your new club will decide its own membership fees, taking into account the dues payable to Lions International and other Lions fees.
Will we get help to start the club?
Yes. You won't have to work it all out on your own. Experienced Lions will help with the steps involved in starting the club, including the official requirements.
Once the club is established, you'll continue to have access to guidance, training, resources and the wider Lions network.
Do I have to be a club leader?
No. A Lions club needs people to take on roles such as President, Secretary and Treasurer, but not every member needs an official position.
You can lead a project, share your skills and ideas, help with activities, or simply get involved in the things that matter to you.

We will bring people together to meet, talk and explore the idea of a Nepalese Lions club in Canberra.

The group can talk about what matters to them, what they would like to achieve and what they want their club to be like.
4. Lions helps with the practical steps.
Experienced Lions will guide the group through the requirements and paperwork involved in starting a new club.
5. The new club becomes yours.
The members make the decisions, choose the projects and causes, and build the club together.
It starts with a group of people coming together with ideas about what they could do.

Following the flash flooding disaster in Nepal, Lions District N2, which includes Canberra and surrounding areas, donated $5,000 to disaster relief.
Within just two days, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) had committed more than $200,000 to support disaster relief in Nepal.
This is the power of being part of Lions. Local Lions can respond to a need, with the strength of an international network behind them.
