Abraham C. Flipse:
The Simultaneous Emergence of Neo-Calvinist and Neo-Thomist ideas about the Natural Sciences in the Netherlands around 1900 and subsequent developments

Ab (Abraham) Flipse is University Historian of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is based in the Cultural History research group within the Faculty of Humanities, where he conducts and coordinates research on the history of universities (especially the history of the VU Amsterdam), of science, of medicine, of science and religion, as well as teaches on a variety of subjects. Having a university-wide position, he also performs functions such as public outreach and advising administrators, faculty, and students on matters dealing with the history of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

 

 

Gijsbert van den Brink:
Neo-Calvinism, Scripture and Evolution

Prof. van den Brink holds the Chair of Theology & Science at the Faculty of Religion and Theology. His research is mainly focused on the interface of Christian theology and the natural sciences. One of his current research insterests is the way in which evolutionary theory coheres with classical theistic beliefs, esp. in the Reformed tradition; this project issued in his book Reformed Theology and Evolutionary Theory (Grand Rapids 2020).

 

 

Ignacio Silva:
Neo-Thomist Trends on Evolution
and Teleology

Ignacio Silva is Professor of Theology and Sciences and of Philosophy at Universidad Austral, where he co-directs the MA and PhD programmes on Philosophy and the Foundations of Science and teaches philosophy. He was formerly a Research Fellow at the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion and a member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion, University of Oxford. He holds degrees in philosophy and theology, and a major theme of his research is the understanding of divine providence in relation to research done in science, philosophy, and theology. 

 

 

Gonzalo Recio:
Josef Donat, el Origen de la Vida y la Vida Extraterrestre

Dr Gonzalo Recio is a philosopher and historian of science, with excellent knowledge on the thought of Thomas Aquinas, and an expert on the history of astronomy. He has led and participated in Templeton-funded projects on the philosophy of religion and science and religion in the past.

 

 

Ignacio del Carril:
Juan González Arintero en Defensa de la Evolución

Dr Ignacio del Carril is a philosopher of religion with an expertise on the history of nineteenth and twentieth century naturalists and scientists and their views on religion and science, in addition to an excellent knowledge of Aquinas’ thought and the history of Thomism. He has also participated in numerous research projects on science and theology in the past in particular on evolution and belief. 

 

 

Oscar Beltrán:
Maritain y la Teoría de la Evolución

Oscar Horacio Beltrán, doctor en filosofía por la Universidad Católica Argentina (tesis: "La integración del saber en la obra de Jacques Maritain" dirigida por Juan José Sanguineti). Titular ordinario de la cátedra de Lógica 1 de la carrera de Filosofía de la misma universidad, donde también se desempeña como docente con dedicación especial dictando materias filosóficas en la carrera de Teología y desarrollando investigación sobre temas de interdisciplinariedad. Es también profesor titular en la Universidad del Norte Santo Tomás de Aquino y varios establecimientos de nivel terciario. Regularmente participa de reuniones académicas y publica en revistas especializadas.
