Cookies
We use cookies to track the areas of our website you have visited. A cookie is a small piece of data stored by your web browser on your device. Cookies help personalize the content you see on our website. While most web browsers allow you to disable cookies, doing so may impact your ability to use certain features of the website. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), this section explains how and why we collect and use your data and how we ensure it is protected under GDPR.
What is GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a comprehensive EU privacy law that governs the protection of personal data for EU residents and provides them with greater control over their data.
What is Personal Data?
Personal data refers to any information that can identify an individual, whether directly or in combination with other data. It includes, but is not limited to, financial details, political opinions, genetic or biometric data, IP addresses, physical addresses, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. GDPR outlines several key principles, such as:
Personal data must be processed fairly, legally, and transparently, and only used in ways that individuals would reasonably expect.
Personal data should only be collected for a specific purpose and used solely for that purpose.
Personal data should be retained no longer than necessary to fulfill its intended purpose.
Individuals have the right to access, update, delete, or restrict the use of their personal data, and to request data portability to another organization.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) introduces new obligations for organizations in terms of how they collect, process, and protect personal data. It also strengthens compliance efforts by imposing stricter penalties for violations. At Help Scout, we prioritize your data privacy and have implemented security and privacy practices that exceed the requirements set by this regulation.
We are committed to helping our customers meet the GDPR's data subject rights requirements. Our personal data is processed or stored with fully vetted vendors that comply with the Data Processing Agreement (DPA). We retain conversation and personal data for up to six years, unless your account is deleted. In that case, we ensure all data is disposed of as outlined in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, but never for more than 60 days.
If you are managing EU-based customers, we enable you to access, update, retrieve, and remove personal data as required by GDPR. From the beginning, we’ve been designed to allow self-service access to your data and your customers' data. Our customer support team is available to assist with any questions related to using our API.
