Nel Larowehn

Larowehn’s honed observation skills infuse her writing with insight and fresh solutions to universal challenges as her writing style captures the ebb and flow of relationships and the inner landscape of individuality.  Larowehn weaves elements of mystery, historical adventure, magical realism, and supernatural themes into her craft.  Her works are deeply influenced by her ancestry,  her upbringing in a large family, and parenting four children alongside her husband.  

Larowehn currently resides in Cache Valley, Utah; grateful for the clear-eyed awareness that rugged mountain walks, day to day challenges, and committed family life provide. 

• • Education: 1994: Attended the International Hoge School vor de Kunsten (School of the Arts) in Utrecht, Netherlands) 

  • 1995: Graduated from Utah State University with BA in Liberal Arts

  • 2005-present: Epoch Arts Studio; mixed media artist utilizing pencil, textile, oil, acrylic, charcoal, and watercolor

  • Music Highlights:  2008-present:  private violin and piano teacher; 1987-present: violinist in varied chamber and symphonic orchestras;  2012-2015: music teacher at Castle Heights Elementary 2015: Co-founder of Castle Valley Orchestra; 2017-present: band member of the Celtic-World-Folk music touring group WildWing 

  • Theater Pursuits:  From early backyard plays performed on carefree summer days, to participating in various university and community performances;  2012-2022: Theater teacher for Upward Bound, summer art camps, plus school and community endeavors

  • Original and authentic art illustrates storyworlds within Larowehn's manuscripts, and is featured as front cover imagery

      First photo taken in 1975, in Southeastern Utah.  Second photo dated 1998 in Portland, Oregon—during the interval between the author's early stories written in her youth, and the intensive rewriting and revision to expand these stories (and others) years later. Third and most recent photo acquired in Marble, Colorado, September of 2024.
