The Nelji village.

Nelji village in Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka, is renowned for its pristine natural beauty and serene environment. Nestled about 27 km from Madikeri, it offers a tranquil retreat surrounded by lush coffee plantations, dense shola forests, rolling grassy hills, and farmland .

Nelji’s natural setting is a blend of coffee plantations, wildlife-rich forests, and peaceful rural landscapes, making it a hidden gem for nature lovers and trekkers seeking solitude and biodiversity in the Western Ghats. The combination of cool misty mornings, diverse flora and fauna, and sweeping mountain vistas captures the quintessential charm of Coorg’s hill country in a less crowded, pristine environment. 

The Makkath Motte Peak.

The Nelji Village Makkath Motte trek in Coorg is a scenic and moderately easy-to-moderate trek that takes you through dense shola forests, coffee plantations, and open grasslands, offering a rich natural experience. Starting with the trail ascends gradually through a magical forest canopy with tall trees like Wild Jackfruit and Mountain Gooseberry, crossing crystal-clear streams along the way. The highlight is the ridge walk to the Maakath Motte summit, where trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary on one side and the Tadiandamol peak on the other, framed by golden-yellow slopes and moss-covered trees 

Day 1 (Friday )-

• 10:00 Pm - Pickup from Majestic (near Santhala silks).

• 10:20 Pm - Pick up from Yeshwanthpur metro station

• 10:30 Pm - Starts overnight journey to Nelji village .

Day 2 (Saturday)-

• 6:00 AM - Reach Nelji village and cozy coffee plantation surrounded homestay

• 6:30 Am - Dormitory stay allotments and tea/coffee

• 7:00 AM - Breakfast and rest in the homestay

• 9:30 AM- Trek to nelji hill‘s Makkath motte peak. After a little drive to the starting point.

• 12:30 PM- have packed lunch on the peak of Makkath Motte with a view of nature.

• 3:30 PM - Reach the homestay and rest.

• 5:30 PM -Tea/coffee and games inside the homestay area.

• 7:30 PM - Dinner and campfire.

• 10:30 PM - windup and have a good sleep amidst the sound of nature’s creatures.

Day 2 inclusion - Breakfast ,Lunch & Dinner will be provided at the homestay, trek permit charges, trek lead from Trekplore India, Naturalist local guide 

Day 3 (Sunday)-

• 6:00 Am - coffee /tea, a Little walk to nearby waterfalls visit

• 7:30 AM - return to homestay and breakfast.

• 8:00 AM - let's chill the morning magic for sometime.

• 9:30 AM - leave the homestay.

• 10:30 AM - journey towards Chicklihole dam.

• 11:30 AM - Chiklihole famous reservoir dam.

• 12:30 PM - lunch at restaurant*.

• 2:00 PM - Depart to Bangalore & dinner on the way.

• 9:30 PM - Reach Bangalore.

(in case of more traffic issue,we can drop at Challaghata metro station first metro station from Mysore Road towards Majestic. To avoid traffic and catch bus/train it will be planned if demands.

Day 2 Inclusions- Breakfast will be provided (lunch & dinner would be on your own choice ), Chicklihole dam visit 

•     Imagine reaching a beautiful little village that feels like a secret hideout, surrounded by endless coffee plants everywhere you look. This makes the village super special and peaceful. The trek starts easy, with a gentle uphill path where you get to cross three cool little streams. Along the way, the forest is full of bright green trees, birds singing happily, and guess what? The trees even give us wild jackfruits and mangoes to enjoy — like nature’s own snack shop!

•     Now, the best part is when you reach Makkath Motte. The view here is something you won’t believe until you see it. There’s a huge green meadow that stretches as far as your eyes can see, like a soft green carpet laid over the mountains. You’ll see a long chain of mountains all connected, with these big open grassy fields on top. And if you look closely, you’ll spot the amazing Bhramagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and the famous Tandiandomal Peak in the distance — it’s like nature showing off its best view just for you!

50 lit rucksack bagpack, 5-lit mini bag during trek, Good grip trekking shoes or good grip sport shoes, 3 pair of socks.

Volini spray, Paracetamol tablet, Ondansentron - vomit control tab, Mosquitoes repellant -Odomos and ORS.

•  From Bangalore, Mysore, and Mangaluru - Reach the Madikeri Bus Stand and move to the Private bus stand which is approximately 1.2 Km from Madikeri bus stand   . Board the Bagamandala bus, route via Napoklu town and take a ticket for Nelaji. Ask the conductor to inform you when it reaches Nelaji junction/society. (Nelaji village is approximately 28Km from Madikeri)

Booking procedure-

A slot can be booked by paying the total trek charge . Sharing the ID proof pic is necessary. If payment is made Online screenshot is necessary to send to the number -7094061960 

Cancellation policy-

1. Cancellation by participant :

• On or before the 15th day - full refund   

• From 15 th day to 7 days before the trek- 60% of the total charge will be refunded.

• From 7 days before the trek - No refund .

2. Cancellation by Trekplore india Management :

• In the event of natural calamities or any unforeseen circumstances (Political unrest, Government-imposed ban, Extreme weather conditions or any situation which affects the trip happening -Beyond TI's control) -  , the Total amount will be repaid. 

• The company reserves the right to take necessary actions under the following circumstances:

• Smoking, consumption of drugs, or alcohol is strictly prohibited during the trek. Violators will be promptly removed from the trip.

• In the event of vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or traffic-related delays, the company shall not be held responsible for any failure to reach the destination on time.

• If political unrest or disturbances occur en route to the trek location, the company may alter or cancel the trek itinerary to ensure participant safety.

• Upon arrival at the campsite, the Trek Instructor (TI) reserves the right to cancel or postpone the trek in case of natural calamities, sudden heavy rainfall, or any other conditions deemed unsafe for trekking.

• If the trek is canceled or disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances, the company may organize alternative activities on-site. Any additional expenses incurred beyond the original trek price will be equally shared among the participants.

• Any participant found engaging in misconduct—including harassment or assault of any kind (mental, physical, or sexual)—will be immediately removed from the trek.

• Trekking involves natural hazards such as sudden weather changes, heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, which may cause trek cancellation without notice.
• There is a risk of encountering wildlife (e.g., snakes, insects) and harmful plants; avoid touching or consuming unknown flora or fauna1.
• Natural disasters like landslides or earthquakes, though rare, can occur in trekking regions.

• Uneven and slippery terrain increases the risk of slips, falls, and injuries.
• Equipment misuse or malfunction (e.g., trekking poles) can cause accidents.

• Prolonged exposure to sun or cold can lead to sunburn, dehydration, or heat-related illnesses..

• Remote trekking locations may have limited medical facilities and challenging evacuation procedures in case of emergencies.

• Unexpected events such as transportation delays, equipment failure, or sudden weather changes may impact your trek experience.
• Exposure to regional diseases or infections is possible; appropriate precautions are advised.

• You are aware of and accept these risks, and voluntarily participate in the trek.
• You agree to follow all safety guidelines provided by Trekplore India.
• You are responsible for the care and use of your personal equipment.
