I joined Connecticut State Grange and National Grange just a few years ago and jumped in with both feet. As President of the New Hartford, Connecticut, Garden Club, I love the mission of Grange. I joined Riverton Grange No. 169 as a regular member and was asked to serve as an Associate Member/Lecturer of Granby Grange No. 5, as part of a rejuvenation project. I immediately became involved in my Pomona Grange and was elected Secretary. Now as the appointed Registrar for the 2024 North East Lecturers Association Conference, I bring extensive qualifications in project management, marketing, and event coordination to the table. My diverse skill set equips me to handle various tasks efficiently and effectively. I excel in fostering positive relationships and ensuring smooth communication among stakeholders. My well-rounded expertise enables me to tackle challenges head-on and adapt to evolving situations seamlessly. As the registrar, I stand ready to orchestrate the conference with precision and professionalism, ensuring a memorable and impactful event for all attendees. I look forward to meeting all of you in Norwich in June.

Valerie Richard - Rhode Island
2024 NELA Vice President
National Grange Member since 2018
Lecturer, RI State Grange
Steward, Washington County Pomona #2
Lecturer, Hope Valley Grange #7
Deaf & Health Chair, Richmond #6, Hope Valley Grange #7
Youth Chair, Hope Valley #7
While I am a 3rd Generation Granger, my Paternal Grandfather was a Past Master of Moosup Valley Subordinate Grange #25 & my dad was a Golden Sheaf member of Exeter Subordinate Grange #12, I did not join the Grange as a Junior.
It wasn't until my kids were 7 & 10 & my Dad heard that they were trying to start up a Jr. Grange in the Washington County area that we ever began to learn what the grange was. After my kids became Junior Grange Members, I was hooked and couldn't wait to join the subordinate Grange myself. I said that I was hooked...I MEANT IT!...I am a single mom & my kids & I are still a very active Grange family of this National Fraternal Organization that we all love so much! My kids are now both Youth Members but my oldest is a Past Jr. Master & Past Youth Chairs for both her subordinate & pomona granges & my youngest is Former Jr. Royalty & a Past RI Youth Ambassador.
I have been the Rhode Island State Grange Lecturer for the past 3 years! As such…my committee & I try 2 hold several interesting statewide events & contests annually. I promote these events to every grange meeting that I attend. So every once in a while, we get a visiting officer from out of state to stop by & check it out!
My daughters & I attempt to attend all grange visitations scheduled by our pomona grange for our respective granges (my kids each have different primary subordinate granges). We also attempt to attend all grange meetings in the state (albeit a small state) in which the meeting's program is one that me or one of my kid's is the chair of. I also make every effort 2 attend any meetings in which they're draping the charter for anyone that I know. We attend our annual session (or sessions as my youngest daughter affiliates with a Grange in CT) yearly. We have consistently attended the Regional Youth Conferences, State & Regional Church Services as well as some of the more recent Lecturer's Conferences & this year...we even attended our 1st Leader's Conference in Concord, NH!
I am so glad that we are able to present a NE Lecturers Conference for the 1st time in 5 years due to Covid...Hope to see you all there then!!
If you have any questions about the upcoming NELA Conference, the RI State Grange, or the Grange in general please feel free to email me at 401StateLecturer@gmail.com.
