“I worked for Walter Haynes (Bill Monroe's producer)from 1982 to 1984 as his chief engineer at his studio in Burns, TN. I recorded the Cathedral Caverns project as well as the Bill Monroe and Friends project. I just reviewed your new box set release of Bill Monroe (My Last Days On Earth) and there are some issues that trouble me. If it at all possible I would like to discuss with you the incident with Walter and Bill listening with Vic to the "final" master as well as the mix itself. Could you also tell me where those mixes were obtained? And who told the story about me adding a part to the recording? I can tell you what really happened.”
On 4/24/07 he wrote further:
“I want to respond about what really happened with Walter putting my vocal on "Wicked Path of Sin" and "I'll Fly Away". I'm also shocked to hear my voice on the mixes. it was not what Bill wanted and however it ended up on this box set I would like to find out. I know that when Walter sold his part of Burns Station Sound he took the multitrack masters with him.
“When I get a chance in the next couple of days, I'll write it out so you can know my whole side of the story.”
I never heard further from Mr. Story.
