Mini-Course Series

Designed with the busy administrator in mind, this planned series of self-directed mini-courses is offered for school leaders to inform and support their work from the administrative realm. As the instructional leader of each school, the principal must balance multiple expectations and duties. There are many administrative actions that when taken by the principal have direct bearing on student achievement. These courses will provide ideas regarding how the work of administrators can be informed by each topic and how each topic can be incorporated into the work of the school.

The courses offered in this series are designed to give administrators a starting point in each topic—an introduction and executive summary, with supporting content and references. Time for administrators is always at a premium, and that is reflected in the way each topic is presented. Selected readings are imbedded within the content, and are brief and to the point.

This series of mini-courses, developed from experiences as principals and in school improvement work, is designed for the following audiences:

· New school leaders

· Experienced leaders who might want or need a refresher

· School Leadership Team Members

· Central Office personnel who supervise school leaders

Each of these mini-courses are designed from a practitioner’s viewpoint. They are self-directed, and can be completed independently by the participant in short segments of time. Courses are correlated and where relevant, referenced to each other, but can stand alone without prerequisites (click here to see the Goals and Descriptive Summaries). Each is built with small segments of content called a Session, which generally can be completed in one setting. To help participants manage their limited available time, an estimate of the time it will take to complete a session is included. Mini-courses should be completed within 1-2 weeks.
