Current Work

This study examines causally the relationship between inheritance rights and domestic violence among married women in India. Using data from the National Household and Family Survey at the individual level, I investigate the effect of reform of providing inheritance to women on domestic violence experienced. The observed effects are driven by the male backlash theory from sociology.

This study contributes to the growing literature on income shocks and fertility decisions, specifically son preference in the Indian context. To establish causality, we exploit the arguably exogenous phase out of the Multi Fibre Agreement that affects textile workers' income.

This research adds to the existing body of knowledge on sexual offences against women in India by analysing the effects of two significant events: the Nirbhaya case and the subsequent Nirbhaya Act of 2013.
