Sustainable School-Based Reform in the Arab Region
TAMAM (التطوير المستند إلى المدرسة) is a pioneering educational initiative housed in the Department of Education at the American University of Beirut (AUB). It empowers schools across the Arab region to lead sustainable, school-based improvement through collaborative, research-driven approaches.TAMAM was initiated in 2007 in response to a dire need for a paradigm shift in how educational reform is conceived, led, planned, and implemented in the Arab region, moving away from top-down models toward contextually grounded, practitioner-led innovation. Over time, with sustained funding and support, it evolved into a growing educational movement led by a network of more than 1300 members of university researchers and educational practitioners from 9 Arab countries who are committed to drive impactful educational reform in the Arab region. At the core of TAMAM is a research lab that catalyzes and promotes its mission to drive sustainable school-based improvement and foster the schools' proactive engagement with their communities. In recognition of its impact, TAMAM received the UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development in 2022, highlighting its leading role in advancing education across the Arab region.
