Dr. Rima Karami currently serves as Minister of Education and Higher Education in the Reform and Rescue Government under the presidency of His Excellency President Nawaf Salam. She holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Portland State University with a specialization in Educational Administration and Supervision within the K-12 framework, where her research focused on school management, organizational change, and educational policy. She also holds a Master's degree in Science Education, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, and a Diploma in Secondary Science Teaching, all from the American University of Beirut.Dr. Karami served as Head of the Education Department and Associate Professor in Educational management, Leadership, and Policy at theAmerican University of Beirut, where she also worked as the convener for the Educational Management and Leadership programs. She is the Director and Principal Investigator of the "TAMAM" project, an Arab research and development initiative launched in 2007 aimed at school-based development. The project received dedicated grants from the "Lore," "Al-Ta'awoun," and "Al-Maimouna for Education" foundations and was among three winning projects of the UNESCO-HamdanPrize for Outstanding Educational Performance in 2022.
Dr. Karami led educational reform efforts in more than 72 schools distributed across nine Arab countries including Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sultanate of Oman, Sudan, Palestine, Qatar, and Kuwait. She currently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee at the "Sham'a" Foundation and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Ta'awounFoundation in Lebanon. She also chairs the Academic Committee of the Board of Trustees at Al-Ahliyya School in Beirut and serves as coordinator of the educational program for the "Khadet Beirut" initiative.
Dr. Karami has contributed to designing and delivering numerous professional development programs for school principals and supervisors, both within large-scale reform initiatives and as an independent consultant. She has published her research in international and local journals addressing topics such as the role of educational administrators within the school context, professional development approaches, program evaluation, institutional development, and school reform models, reflecting a distinguished professional career dedicated to educational leadership, reform, and research across the Arab world.
