Inspired by my experiences in the Oleander Initiative competition in Hiroshima and the recent victory of the BHS student delegation in 2025, I advocate for integrating peace and conflict resolution education into classrooms. In a world of ongoing conflicts, equipping students with resilience, negotiation, and peaceful problem-solving skills is essential. Conflict resolution education fosters dialogue, empathy, and understanding, helping students address disagreements constructively and seek alternatives to violence. Aligned with disarmament education principles, it promotes critical thinking and awareness of peace, security, and sustainable development. Interactive learning methods, such as case studies and role-playing, enhance students’ ability to manage conflicts effectively. As Kofi Annan emphasized, education must recall the past to shape the future, countering ignorance and promoting a culture of peace, diversity, and wisdom.
