Anyone can Cartoon Recording


Drawing and cartooning activities for teens presented by Daryl Seitchik, cartoonist and teacher currently living in Vermont. In this participatory workshop you will learn how to structure a comics class for teens, as well as several drawing activities for all levels and ages. You will get a chance to create your own comics/cartoons! 

Participants will need the following materials: loose sheets of letter-sized copy paper, pencil & scissors. Optional materials: ruler, pen, preferred coloring tools, sketchbook paper.

How to Engage Teen Patrons using Discord (For newbies) Recording


What is Discord? What is a channel? Why do I need a bot? If you’re new to Discord and want to understand it as a tool and how that tool can be used to connect with your teens, join Jackie Bush and Chris Bacchiocchi from the Stratford Library as they take you through the Discord bells and whistles and how you can use the platform to connect with teen. This session is best for Discord newbies. 

Using Discord to Build a Community for Teens Recording


Once you've gotten a handle on what a Discord server is, it's time to learn how to help it flourish! We will discuss strategies for empowering teens to take ownership of this digital space and what that can look like. Library colleagues from the San Antonio Public Library will share their experiences building community for teens using Discord! This session is for people familiar with Discord or people who attended the previous session and want to know more!

Beyond Book Bans- Creating Inclusive Spaces for LGBTQ+ Youth- Equity Maine Recording

This last year has seen a rise in book bans targeted at stories about LGBTQ+ youth. At a time when these youth are being told their lives don't belong on library shelves, how can we send the message that they do belong? This session will discuss factors impacting LGBTQ+ youth today and explore ways to create safe and welcoming spaces. 

Youth Summer Career Bridging Workshop Recording


Catherine Potter, Children's and Teen Librarian at the East Hartford Public Library will share with us her experience of creating Youth Summer Career Bridging Workshops (YSCBW). The series of training for youth were all about career preparation and development from job readiness to soft skills to applying to jobs. Designed to grow the career core competencies identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, they covered communication, teamwork, problem solving, customer service, professionalism, and interviewing. EHPL supported this program with an LSTA Grant from the CT State Library with funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

MA Teen Choice Book Award Panel Recording
