The Next Door Agency is an organization composed of humans and entities who take on cases related to the Veiled World and rogue entities. Their primary goals are the following:
PROTECTION - Safeguard civilian, allied entities, and beneficial Veiled environments
CONTROL - Obtain knowledge and understanding of the paranormal world to secure stability and control over it.
PROGRESSION - Further the NDA's financial stability, technological prowess and social connections.
The NDA will work with local law enforcement, criminal organisations, and supernatural communities. They take cases based on their interest in the subject and hold no loyalty to other groups operating in Harrowmoor. They are viewed by contemporary societies as competitive and versatile, so there is no shortage of cases, but their closed-off and ambitious nature is brewing tensions in some circles.
The NDA employs around 250 agents across all departments, with the majority of staff in auxiliary and research assistant roles. Candidates are selected based on their skillset, profession, or other 'attributes'. Once selected, they are put under general surveillance until such time the NDA makes contact for an interview.
Many entities under the NDA's employment have found a new sense of purpose through their roles, or simply a more comfortable life. A small fraction of human agents are invited into the NDA after they encounter supernatural entities and gain useful insights and abilities.
The NDA operates from a large converted factory in an industrial district made up of other factories, wholesale stores, and storage facilities alongside run-down cafes and diners for workers. Within this district is a tram line that leads into the city center and a river adjacent that leads into the Harrowmoor forest.
The location was carefully considered by the Balfours due to its low foot traffic and unassuming nature. It also acts as a middle ground between the Mundane and Veiled world hubs. On paper the NDA building is a factory that produces and sells computer parts with no reason for anyone to ever go in. Of course, all authority figures have been paid off or obfuscated.
The PR department works within the main, public-facing building; this space has the appearance of a mundane office with large open windows, a perk of the former factory setting. (PR enjoy the sunlight!) It’s worth noting they have a strict data-containment protocol should their offices be infiltrated.
The rest of the NDA HQ is underground, a seemingly endless maze of hallways, labs and specialized facilities. The deeper you go into the building, the more unusual it becomes, likely enhanced by anomalous means.
