Developing infrastructure demands better and innovative structures along with a good foundation to cater to the needs of present generation. However, natural and anthropogenic hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, floods and fire have strongly affected the built environment around us. The scarcity of good quality soil has define new challenges for both structural and geotechnical engineers as one cannot built “stable structures” on weak soil
This has led to adoption of base isolation techniques by consulting engineers during construction of various types of structures like bridges, transmission towers, chimneys, storage and nuclear structures to tackle natural calamities like earthquake. Researchers have been putting enormous effort to convert industrial wastes into value added products which can replicate the use of conventional construction materials such as bricks and aggregates as well as improve the existing soil condition through innovative ground improvement techniques.
It is worthy to note that our research efforts should be devoted to define smart strategies to effectively deal with rapidly evolving scenarios. In view of that, NIT Jamshedpur through NCSGE-2022 will provide a single platform to academic scientists and budding researchers to exchange and share their novel research findings and innovations in the field of structural and geotechnical engineering. Further, this would eventually help in developing future collaborations with several reputed institutes as well as industries.
