Tripura University
Tripura University was founded as a state university on October 2, 1987, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Subsequently in the year 2007, it was converted to a central university under the Tripura University Act, 2006 as enacted by the Parliament. Committed to advancing the development and empowerment of the people of Tripura and the surrounding region, the university focuses on delivering high-quality education and fostering technological innovation through its academic and research activities.
Nestled in an idyllic, pollution-free zone, the campus offers a serene and inspiring environment conducive to nurturing young and promising minds. Currently, Tripura University boasts 45 departments and 15 centres, supported by over 300 faculty members. Upholding the motto of "pursuit of excellence", the university strives to be a beacon of higher education in the small, landlocked state of Tripura in North East India.
Our Department came into existence on the 12th of the June, 2007, through the trifurcation of the Department of Life Science, established in 1976, with the objective of providing post graduate qualification to the students of the state of Tripura.. A number of major research projects funded by various National Scientific Agencies have being undertaken by Faculty Members.
On 12th June 2007 the Department of Zoology was established through trifurcation of pre-existing Department of Life Science. The Department of Zoology for the first time in Tripura developed artificial fertilization technology through Research studies on captive breeding technology on highly proteinaceous cat fish species Ompok bimaculatus.
