June 10, 2025
Members of the Board of Directors for Region 5 met on June 10, 2025 at The Forks Cafeteria in Wake Forest. Region 5 Spring Conference 2025
May 7, 2025
Granville County RSP graciously hosted our Region 5 Spring Conference at the Creedmoor Community Center in Creedmoor. There were over 35 in-person attendees, as well as 6 more who logged in to Zoom to participate. In addition to our usual business items, we enjoyed a session of Chair Yoga that had us stretching and breathing and generally feeling good, enjoyed a presentation about Brain and Mental Health that showed us ways to stay mentally healthy and well-rounded, enjoyed a catered lunch offering chicken, ham, green beans, mac and cheese, dinner roll and dessert, and had a review of the NEA Member Benefits Website. Door prizes ranging from gift cards to a lovely basket (provided by the Granville RSP) were awarded throughout the day. Thank you to each local for contributing to the door prizes that elicited oohs, aaaahs, and hoorays from all.
The biggest moment, of course, was the election of new officers for 2025-2027. Incumbent Director Tama Bouncer will be joined by Dr. Angela Clayton to serve as co-Directors for the upcoming term. Incumbents Elvelon Mason (Secretary) and Beth Denton (Treasurer) were both elected to continue in their roles. Each was sworn in by Linda Gunter, President of NCRSP, in a ceremony that closed out the meeting.
Many thanks to all who organized, contributed to, and attended the conference. There are too many to name, but you know who you are, and we appreciate all the hard work that went into making this happen so smoothly, efficiently and in such a nice setting.

FCRSP Membership Drive Reception
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, members of Franklin County Retired School Personnel held a floating reception to honor upcoming retirees. We met in a conference room at the Central Office for Franklin County Schools, where a spread of light refreshments including cake, cheese, crackers, dip and fruit trays were served to attendees. Door prizes of Food Lion gift cards and gourmet fudge were also given out.
Attendees included several members of FCSRP and Region 5 Director, Tama Bouncer, all of whom enjoyed conversing about a variety of topics, not only about our FCRSP group and the projects we support, but also sharing experiences and expectations for their upcoming retirement. Welcome bags were given out that held not only information about NCRSP and FCRSP, but also a magnet, pen and other goodies for the soon-to-be retirees.
This gathering was made possible by a small membership drive grant from NCRSP. We hope to do this again next year.
NCRSP State Convention
On March 26-27, 2025 NCRSP members from all over the state met at the Durham Hilton (Duke University location) for our annual State Convention. Workshops included Mental Wellness for Seniors and Yoga for Seniors, along with presentations from Pierce Insurance, a Medicare update and and introduction to SHIIP. The Representative Assemblies was filled with basic business items as well as a number of speakers on various topics. A tribute to the late Dr. Willie T Ramey III, past NCRSP president was received warmly as his son talked about his father's legacy.
Another featured speaker was NEA-Retired Lead Lobbyist, Stephanie Salvador, who enlightened the membership on legislative matters and our organizations efforts to enhance and protect the rights and position of our members. The discussion, once moved to floor for questions and statements, became rather lively as the group became more deeply aware of the impacts and implications of the current political climate, both at the state and federal level.
Additionally, the focus was on the North Carolina Foundation for Public School Children, which has close ties to our organization. Fund raising efforts throughout the year, along with the silent and live auctions held at the convention, brought in a record amount, along with a might fun time as regions jockeyed with each other to raise the most money for the foundation. Our own Wake County local came in second in those fundraising efforts.
Thank you all for the hard work you have put in on behalf of the students, families and retirees of our state.
