REAL ID (called STAR ID in Alabama)
The deadline for the STAR ID has been extended to Oct. 1, 2021. Once the act goes
into effect, individuals who do not have an unexpired U. S. passport or STAR ID can’t
board commercial aircraft for domestic flights, nor be able to enter certain regulated
federal facilities.
STAR ID’s are issued only at Driver License exam offices. (closest to us is Sheffield).
Applicants must present documents to verify identity/date of birth, social security
number, and address of principal residence. A list of acceptable documents can be
found on the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency website. Alea.gov
You can go to the county office in Moulton for renewals/duplicates for license, ID cards,
and STAR ID.
Lawrence County Public Safety App
Lawrence county launched a public safety app free to download for Apple and Android
users. Receive alerts for school closings, weather, and road conditions. Also alerts
from the sheriff’s department. You can access up-to-date jail, inmate, and sex offender
information, and submit anonymous crime tips directly to the sheriff’s department.
The app also allows users to connect with other public safety officials, provides county
storm shelter locations, evacuation routes during natural disasters, and will send users
push notifications for news and updates, which users can customize according to their
own preferences.
Selective Service Registration for Males 18-25 years old
If you are a male required to register and you don’t, you can be denied federal student
aid, federal job training, or a federal job. You could face prosecution and face a fine or
jail time. If you’re an immigrant to the US, you will not be eligible for citizenship.
Online registration is simple and quick. You can also get a registration form at the post
office and possibly at your high school. If applying for WIOA job training funds at an
Alabama Career Center, staff can get you registered. However, if you are age 26 or
older and haven’t registered, you will have to provide evidence that you didn’t
intentionally avoid registering in order to apply for federal funding or a federal job.
