National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NITPY), Karaikal is an autonomous public engineering institute in the Union Territory of Puducherry. It is one among the 31 National Institutes of Technology of India and is declared as an Institute of National Importance by Government of India under NIT Act, 2007. The institute was established in 2010, starting its intake in the academic year 2010-11.
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram was established in 2007 to foster research oriented towards Space Science and Technology and also to stimulate collaborative research with various units of ISRO and other institutes at a deeper academic level.
The Department of Mathematics is one of the pioneering departments of the institution and is equipped with strongly motivated and dedicated faculty members. It was established in 2010 and has always contributed to the vision of the institute in striving for excellence in teaching and research activities. The department plays an important role to hone the students with a strong basic concept of mathematics of various B.Tech. and M.Tech. Programmes of the institute and flare up a passion of enquiry within them. The department also offers Ph.D. Programmes in various fields of Mathematics and interdisciplinary areas. Its objective is to endeavour for excellence in research and to impart high quality education, so as to transform the young technocrats and scholars into competent and motivated professionals.
The Department of Mathematics was started in 2007. It offers courses at undergraduate and post graduate level for Aerospace and Avionics Engineering branches and also runs M.Tech. Programme in Machine Learning and Computing. At present, there are eleven faculty members in the department, working in the following research areas: Mathematical Control Theory, Industrial Mathematics and Soft computing, Mathematical Elasticity, Homogenization, Partial Differential Equations, Differential Geometry and its Applications, Stochastic Modeling & Analysis, Numerical Solutions to Fluid Dynamics, Computational Partial Differential Equations, Commutative Algebra, Machine Learning & Data mining, Control and Inverse Problems for Deterministic and Stochastic Partial Differential Equations.
