About the Conference

Language is an essential element in human's life as it pervades individual, society, culture and every dimension of human endeavours. Language is not merely a medium of communication but a resource and repertoire for meaning-making. For this reason, language pedagogy has been a primary concern in education. In a multilingual, multicultural and multi-ethnic country like India, language pedagogy has to afford multifarious challenges at the levels of policy and praxis. Since Independence, the language and education policies have subsumed bi/multilingualism under language in an attempt to address the challenges and opportunities of the linguistic situation in India. However, in terms of praxis the language pedagogy has to confront complex challenges emanating from policy imperatives as well as people's aspirations.

The learning and teaching of language has become an even more serious concern due to the unbound growth in science and technology, increased mobility, globalisation and ultimately the resultant changes in education policies. In the present era, there is an unavoidable demand that an educated person should not only possess necessary knowledge and skills but also be well-versed in communication skills. Thus, language pedagogy in general and language education in particular have to look for new perspectives and direction in terms of approaches, methods and techniques of language learning and teaching other than and in addition to the traditional ones. These perspectives and directions can be achieved by the way of researches, experiments, discussions, deliberations and sharing of the ideas. The present conference is an attempt to provide a forum for sharing the ideas coming from the researches, experiments, discussions, deliberations and best practices in the interdisciplinary field of language pedagogy.

Objectives

The present conference aims at providing a forum to the scholars in the field of Language Education to share their relevant experiences, innovative practices, evidence-based research findings etc., enabling the practicing teachers, teacher educators, pedagogy experts, and other stakeholders to have fruitful interactions on the emerging trends in Language Education, providing some authentic reference material to the practicing language teachers so that they may further update and improve upon their teaching, and encouraging and promoting research in the field of Language Education.

How to reach Ajmer?

Ajmer is well-known all over India as a historical and religious place of pilgrimage as well as an educational hub. It owes this reputation partly due to the Regional Institute of Education. The Institute is situated about 6 km away from Ajmer Railway Station in the midst of idyllic surroundings with the historic Anasagar Lake in front and the Aravali Hills all around. It is almost equidistant from the world famous Dargah of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti and Teerthraj Pushkar. The distance of the Institute from the city bus stand is about 6 km. Auto and Taxi services (including Ola and Uber cab services) are available from both the places (Railway Station and Bus Stand). Ajmer city is well connected with the trains from major cities of the country.

The nearest airport to Ajmer is the Kishangarh Airport approximately 32 kms away and well connected by both rail and road. The other nearest airport is the Sanganer Airport or Jaipur International Airport, which is located around 135 km away and well connected by both rail and road.

Regional Institute of Education (RIE) is more famously known as Regional College of Education (the old name) among common folk. Please ask for Regional College of Education, Pushkar Road, Ajmer to the local folks (such as cab or taxi drivers) while seeking any service, help or information in order to avoid miscommunication as interestingly there is a village nearby named 'Arai', pronounced as RIE and if you ask for RIE it may lead to auditory misinterpretation for people in favour of the above mentioned village. So, please take care of this trivia!
