Promotion and exchange of Knowledge
The Network of Cities with Lakes, in partnership with the Municipality of Agia and the organization "Melivoias Demas," facilitated a mission for the Ecogenia organization and the California Conservation Corps in Greece. This initiative aimed to showcase and exchange expertise in disaster management with representatives from the California Conservation Corps and Ecogenia.
The Mayor of Agia, Antonis Goundaras, welcomed the California Conservation Corps team and the Ecogenia Organization.
The partnership is focused on sharing expertise to address the challenges municipalities face after flood events. CCC and Ecogenia are contributing to cleanup and recovery efforts that have emerged following the disasters caused by Daniel, through their voluntary support. This initiative also underscores the importance of the social service model as a framework for meeting the medium- and long-term rehabilitation needs of municipalities impacted by extreme weather events.

The CCC-Ecogenia team received a warm welcome from Mayor Antoni Goudara at the Agia Town Hall. During the meeting, the Mayor highlighted the historical significance of the region, its contributions to the country's productive sectors, and the unique physical attributes of the municipality. He also discussed the damages inflicted upon the municipality by the Daniel flood event and the ongoing containment efforts
The CCC - Ecogenia team, along with representatives from the Network of Cities with Lakes and Mayor Antonis Goundaras, visited the impressive Velika Castle, which dates back to the Justinian era. This castle was constructed atop the remnants of an ancient fortification, where significant historical artifacts continue to be uncovered each year, shedding light on the area's rich history.
Dr. Stavroula Sdrolia, the Head of the Antiquities Tax Office in Larissa, led the group to the archaeological site and provided guidance on the cleaning work as part of the demonstration project undertaken by the CCC-Ecogenia teams.
