Secondary batteries are an indispensable electricity-storage system for the development of renewable energy systems and electric vehicles. Lithium ion batteries are one of the most promising battery types for these applications. Germany is the leader of car and renewable energy industries in Europe. This Taiwan-Germany Joint Workshop invites top scholars of both sides to present their new and advanced work in battery research, aiming to develop mutually beneficial ties and cooperation. Collaboration of the abundant academic research resources of Taiwan and Germany is expected to benefit battery-related industries in the expansion of global markets. This workshop provides an excellent platform for scholars and experts to share experiences and exchange views, initiating cooperative research projects supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

二次電池是開發再生能源及電動車必備的電力儲存及中繼裝置。鋰離子電池是其中應用最廣且效率高的使用方式。德國為歐洲電動車與新能源應用最大區域市場，長期投入鋰離子及其他二次電池研發。本研討會邀請德國及台灣鋰離子電池學研領域的頂尖學者演講鋰離子及相關二次電池的最新研究進展，希望藉由雙方學術交流帶動的充沛研發能量，發展共同利益及合作分工，進而提昇電池相關產業之技術水準與擴展國際市場。本次研討會提供學者專家難得的學術討論與技術經驗交流平台，且進一步向科技部提出台德雙邊合作研究計畫。
