About the University
Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), established by an Act of Parliament and spread in 520 acres of land on the bank of river Vettaaru and in the surrounding of the lush greens of Cauvery delta region, came into existence in 2009. Emerging as one of the multidisciplinary knowledge hub and research centre of higher education in India, the 12 Schools and 27 departments of CUTN offer Post graduate, Integrated and PhD programmes in Social Sciences and Humanities, Communication, Basic and Applied Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, Technology, Education and Training, Commerce, Management, Law, Performing Arts and Computer Sciences.
Central Library
The University Library was established in the year 2009 and it serves the students, faculty members and staff of the university. The library has a collection of about 45,000 books and 3500 e-books. Of these, more than 5,000 books are reference books (Handbooks, Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, and colored atlases, etc.) and the rest are Textbooks and General books. Besides these, the library also has CDs/DVDs and subscribes to 150 print journals. The library has been actively interacting with teaching departments and faculty and a pro-active approach to building an essential collection of resources for new programmes being introduced by the various departments have been adopted. It facilitates the access to more than 10,000 online electronic journals through UGC - e-ShodhSindhu, J-Gate, and others. The EPWRF India Time Series database also subscribed for the benefit of faculty, researchers and students in social sciences. The library is fully automated having an online catalogue that can be easily accessed by the users. The library implemented Koha - an open source software package which is an integrated library management system that supports all housekeeping operations of the library. Recently RFID and CCTV security systems are implemented. There is a separate digital library centre having 30 computers running on high speed internet. Ourginal & iThenticate anti-plagiarism software access are added by Central Library to check the theses and other publications for the benefit of faculty and students. The library is providing comfortable, user friendly environment for learning and dissemination of knowledge and information.
