A Family Resource Center is a community or school-based welcoming hub of support, services, and opportunities for families. -

Positive Childhood Alliance North Carolina (PCANC) is a statewide nonprofit organization that works to ensure the prevention of child maltreatment is a priority in North Carolina using the Protective Factors Framework. Given the potential of Family Resource Centers to increase protective factors against child abuse and neglect, PCANC was interested in exploring their needs and opportunities to support them. This project was funded by the Duke Endowment to explore the status and needs of FRCs in North Carolina and the potential of supporting FRCs through a statewide network.
Landscape Analysis Findings:
The project team developed and administered a survey to FRCs across North Carolina. Of the 23 survey respondents, 96% were interested in joining a statewide network. FRCs receive most of their funding from state government sources, fundraising events, and private foundations. At least 75% of all FRCs participating in the landscape analysis offered referrals, community awareness, child development activities, and access to information. Additionally, at least 50% offered early childhood services, family activities, home visiting, drop-in services, and case management. Respondents were most interested in information about funding opportunities, professional development opportunities, networking with other FRCs, and state-level advocacy.
