Established on July 1, 2022, in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh University is the state’s sole state university. Founded under the APU Act of 2012 and recognised by the UGC, it is empowered to award degrees across various disciplines. While the foundation stone was laid in 2013 by then CM Shri Nabam Tuki, the university officially inaugurated its first academic session on August 23, 2023, under the guidance of Governor Lt. Gen. K.T. Parnaik. Situated along the banks of the Siang River and surrounded by tropical forests, the campus sits in a region rich with the history and oral traditions of the Adi and Galo communities. Pasighat, founded in 1912, is one of the state’s oldest and best-connected towns, accessible via NH 515, the Bogibeel Bridge, and nearby rail and air links. The university currently offers 11 postgraduate and PhD programmes: Commerce, Education, Economics, Social Work, Tribal Studies, Sociology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Mass Communication, English, and Hindi. These courses are specifically designed to foster socio-economic development and preserve the cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh. APU aims to evolve into a world-class institution that empowers society through indigenous research and intellectual excellence.
