Join MATHStodon to Connect with Fellow Math Educators!
by Julie Reulbach
Please join your fellow math educators on MATHStodon! A vibrant math ed community is currently thriving there, and we would love for you to join us!
What the heck is MATHStodon? MATHStodon is an “instance” of Mastodon. Mastodon is a decentralized social network made up of independent servers organized around specific themes, topics, or interests. And, MATHStodon is an “instant” or one of these individual servers or nodes that make up the larger Mastodon network. Unlike other social media sites, there are NO ADS in the MATHStodon, and your feed is only the people that you decide to follow. There are no “suggested” posts or verified accounts. And unlike twitter which has a lot of junk on it, MATHStodon is a place for people who love math and is run by a mathematician, Christian Lawson-Perfect.
To learn how to sign up, and see all of the prompts, go to Julie’s Blog at iSpeakMath.org. Sam Shah and Julie Reulbach are posting “Prompts” to get math educators talking! Once you join, you can jump in and do any (or all) of the prompts you like! And, check out the #ClassroomMath hashtag to see posts about math education.
Once you sign up, you can find hundreds of math educators in this Google Doc created by Ilana Horn. Be sure to add your information as well so others can find you! Also, download a Mastodon app to make browsing and posting more friendly. We recommend the “Ice Cubes for Mastodon” app.
Once you sign up, please say Hi to Julie and Sam! We can’t wait to see you there!
