About National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the premier youth organisation of India functioning under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It was formally established on 16 April 1948 to develop leadership, discipline, character, and a spirit of service among young Indians. Since its inception, millions of students have joined NCC, growing from around 38,500 cadets in 1948 to over 20 lakh (2 million) cadets today, making it one of the largest uniformed youth organisations in the world.

NCC provides structured training that includes military drills, leadership exercises, adventure activities, social service, and national-level camps. Through a balanced combination of physical training and personality development, NCC transforms young students into confident, responsible, and service-oriented citizens.

Membership in NCC is voluntary but highly respected. Cadets get opportunities to participate in prestigious programmes such as Republic Day Camp (RDC), Annual Training Camps (ATC), All India Trekking Camp (AITC), Army Attachment Camp (AAC), and many other national and international exchange programmes. These experiences help them gain exposure, build confidence, and prepare for leadership roles in society and the defence services.
