Chelsea Saunders, Battalion Commander
Hello Scorpion Battalion, My name is C/LTC Chelsea Saunders, and I am the Battalion commander this year. As the commander, I am responsible for leading the Battalion in formations, parades, trips, etc. I also delegate authority to C/MAJ Kyrra Crook, the battalion Executive Officer, the Company Commanders (who lead the companies), and the team Commanders (who lead our extracurricular teams). I will be using the SportsYou app to post important information about uniforms and events; however, any questions or concerns about battalion functions should be directed to your company leadership first. Trust the Chain of Command. We have some major battalion events this quarter, such as JPA and the North West Christmas Parade. There are also multiple meets/ competitions coming up soon for our JROTC teams. Let’s finish the semester strong by staying on top of grades and behavior!
Kyrra Crook, Battalion Executive Officer
Hey everyone I am C/MAJ Kyrra Crook. I am a Let 4 right now and am in charge of maintaining the battalion staff to make sure everything is planned for this year. We got off on a great start and we are planning many more events and activities for the future! I hope I can keep this year going and improving! We already see improvement from everyone in the companies and I hope to see you in the next semester and at all of our major events. Let's keep our battalion going and let's keep pushing until the end!
Miguel Gonzalez Vazquez, Battalion Command Sergeant Major
Hello, I am C/CSM Miguel Gonzalez Vazquez, and I am the Battalion CSM this school year. This is my 3rd year in JROTC. These past 3 years, I’ve participated in the drill, color guard, and rifle team. Last year, our rifle team made it to nationals and won 1st place in the Army and 2nd in the nation. I hope I can build towards a better placement even after everyone else I know is gone, so my goal is to finish strong this year. My job is to communicate with the First Sergeants to make sure they’re doing their jobs correctly, to make sure they get the building clean at the end of every class. I’m in charge of picking dates for the promotion board and picking cadet of the quarter based on the highest scores, and I perform any other duties assigned to me.

We hope to maintain the standard and make it easier for next year's staff to do their jobs. If you have any questions about awards or promotions feel free to ask. Baker’s Blog
As I pen my last Baker’s Blog as the SAI of NBHS, I want to take a moment to
thank all family and friends of the Scorpion Battalion for your efforts and commitment to
the JROTC Program. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me and I
have learned and gained so much by my association with everyone in this program,
past and present. I want to introduce and warmly welcome the new SAI CPT George
King coming from Trask High School in Pender County. I also want to thank all cadets,
past and present for their efforts to make the scorpion battalion what it is today and
what it will be tomorrow. On behalf of MSG Guy and SFC Bass, we are proud of our
many accomplishments last semester including the many competitions we have
participated in, the many color guards and the many volunteer events led by a strong
with a very capable command team. We also had a superb performance in the SENC
Veteran’s Day Parade and expect the same at the Northwest Christmas Day Parade.
We remain poised for push forward to achieve even more this next semester with the
annual TriMeet, the Military Ball, the St Patrick’s Day Parade, the Change of Command
and Awards Ceremony, and the annual Organization Day.
As usual we can’t accomplish anything without the caring support of our great
parent’s and our parent’s association – thank you. With a healthy crop of new cadets
including freshman and transfers filling our ranks, there will continue to be a lot of
learning over the second semester and with the support and effort of our cadet leaders,
we will improve each cadet’s growth and development towards becoming a better
citizen!
Our one and only fundraiser completed last month and netted just over $10,ooo.
Great job! These funds will support various events throughout the school year including
the military ball and organization day where all food and beverages are provided by
JROTC. Our success this year depends on the continued motivation of our Cadets who
need to look professional and behave with dignity as we support school and community
events. Remember also that each cadet must complete 10 hours of community service
through 2 events each semester. There is also a plethora of events starting now that
involve teams within the battalion including the color guard, the drill team, the rifle team,
the raider team, the robotics team, the drone team, and the Cyber Patriot Team. Please
review the BN calendar of events for these events as it is updated frequently. Likewise,
please get involved in extra-curricular activities either with JROTC or elsewhere in the
school. You are writing your post-high school resume right now! Make it a good one!
Let’s get motivated and continue this year of growth and development focused on
adhering to the Army Values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor,
Integrity, and Personal Courage. Likewise we will continue to strive to Be Respectful,
Be Resilient, and Be Relentless in everything that we do – BR3! Thanks for taking the
journey with us and let’s make it a journey that we will appreciate and remember fondly
in reflection.
