Individuals Interested in Military Job Placement
The ASVAB helps determine eligibility for specific jobs within the military (Military Occupational Specialties or MOS).
Age
Minimum age is 17 with parental consent; 18 without.
Education
High school students can take it starting in 10th grade (scores won’t count for enlistment until 11th grade or later).
High school diploma or GED is generally required for enlistment.
Identification
A valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, or state ID) is needed.
Residency or Citizenship
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to enlist, but others may take the ASVAB for career exploration purposes.
Retest Rules
You can retake the ASVAB after 30 days (first retest) and then after an additional 30 days (second retest). After that, you must wait 6 months.
