The foundation meeting for the forming of the New Brighton Ladies Probus Club was held on 11 June 1990. 

At that time, Probus South Pacific Limited (PSP), based in Parramatta NSW was the umbrella organisation for Probus clubs in New Zealand. Over time, there was growing dissatisfaction in some clubs with the performance of PSP and that eventually led to the creation of Friendship New Zealand Incorporated in 2014 (FNZI). Some NZ Probus clubs then removed themselves from PSP and joined FNZI. 

The New Brighton Ladies’ Probus Club joined FNZI in 2014-2015 and the club name changed to New Brighton Ladies' Friendship Club.

In 2017, the New Brighton Ladies' Friendship Club amalgamated with the New Brighton Men’s Friendship Club to become the New Brighton Friendship Club.
