While we'd love for you to listen to every episode of the New Brunswick Archaeology Podcast (except Episode 1 ; we had no idea what we were doing for that one), we understand that listeners come to the podcast with different interests and goals. Here is a guide to the rivers and portages that make up the New Brunswick Archaeology Podcast.
Archaeology at Portland Point, New Brunswick
(Courtesy of the Provincial Archives)
Season one focuses on laying out the basics of the archaeological record from almost 13000 years ago to the Loyalist period. This is a great place to start (but skip episode 1) if you are new to the archaeology of New Brunswick. These episodes make more sense if you listen to them in order.
Intrusive features are our interviews with people about specific professional topics, like publishing in archaeology, or our roundups of conferences, such as the Canadian Archaeological Association Meeting or the Society for American Archaeology meeting. If you already feel confident about the framework of New Brunswick archaeology, and are pressed for time, you might still want to check these out. These are sprinkled throughout each season.
You may be wondering what has all these folks in rapt attention at the Papers in Honour of Dave Black session at the 2023 CAA. You'll have to tune in to find out...
Interviewing Steph Halmhofer about pseudoarchaeology
In this season, we dig some sondages into specific archaeological topics, such as the archaeology of fear, watercraft, and pseudoarchaeology. Some of these episodes are duos, but other than that, they are in no particular order, so dip in and out as you like. This season features a lot of interviews with some of our favourite archaeologists.
Our "Great Sites" episodes are interviews with archaeologists about some of the sites we mentioned in Season 1. These are in no particular order. We think these interviews will be interesting to anyone from New Brunswick or who wants to learn about special places here.
