This article is intended to familiarize players with the basics of managing a submarine in a game on a PC. The nuances of combat tactics on the submarines are not considered here.
So, in the first battle on the submarine, an unprepared player may be faced with the question: “And how, in fact, can you manage this technological miracle?”
For starters, you can call up the control help by holding down the "F1" key
View while pressing "F1"
The submarine is able to be in one of two modes: underwater and surface. The transition from one to another is carried out by pressing "U".
Since the submarine begins to fight in the underwater mode, we will consider it first. As well as on surface ships, the “W” key increases speed, “S” decreases, “A” and “D” turn left / right and “Q” with “E” also turn without the need to hold down the key. Unlike surface ships, the submarine is able to sink and float, and in two ways:
The first - with the help of the diving planes. The boat must be in motion. The “B” and “V” buttons shift the steering wheel to rise and dive, respectively. Holding them is not necessary. The position indicator (Bottom left, next to the steering wheel) displays the status of the boat (rise or dive). The “N” button takes the steering wheel to neutral.
The second - with the help of ballast tanks. The "R" and "F" buttons allow you to rise and fall without even being in motion. The disadvantage of this method is that compressed air is spent, which is necessary for firing torpedoes under water.
None of these methods will force you to resurface - there is a “U” key for this.
Boat resources.
At the top left, next to the percentages of C & B and the armor indicator, you can see two scales: yellow and blue, as well as an indicator of the total number of torpedoes on the boat. Torpedoes cannot be reloaded from one torpedo to another, so it may well be a situation when there are torpedoes on the boat, but you cannot shoot from the nose tubes, because the torpedoes remaining are only in the rear tubes.
The yellow scale is marked with the letter "C" (Compressed Air). It shows the amount of compressed air needed to launch torpedoes under water and the use of ballast tanks. At the time of this writing, the launch of a torpedo from the V-7 Dolphin required 8% compressed air, which made it possible to fire twice from all 6 tubes. Without compressed air, shooting under water is impossible.
The blue scale is marked with the letter “B” (Battery). It shows the charge level of the batteries that power the electric motors and allow the boat to move under water. Also mistakenly called "air supply." If the boat is not moving, then the charge is not wasted. At the moment, it was not possible to establish what will happen if the charge ends, because on the V-7 "Dolphin" it is enough for the whole fight.
Air and energy can be replenished when the boat is on the surface. Compressed air replenishes at a rate of about 1 unit in 2 seconds, so use it carefully.
Periscope
Periscope is activated by the right mouse button.
The periscope rises and falls with the “Num-” key (minus the numeric keypad) or the middle mouse button (press the wheel).
Of course, you should not hope to see the surface in a periscope while deep under water. For example, for V-7 "Dolphin" the maximum periscope depth is 13.6m
Shooting torpedoes.
Under water, shooting is performed from each tube individually, by pressing a key on the main keyboard with a number corresponding to the TA number.
The bottom right is the each tube status.
Green - shooting is possible.
Yellow - charged, but can not shoot in this direction.
Filling yellow - charging.
The depth indicator of the torpedoes shows how deep the torpedoes will move - you need to fight another submarine at depth.
The tubes are fixed, but the torpedoes turn in that direction where the sight is looking. Therefore, it is possible to shoot at some angle to the axis of the boat. You should practice this in practice mode to get a feel for this feature.
Surface mode
Switching modes by pressing “U”. Ascent and dive take some time, so choose the time for the ascent wisely. The ascent next to the enemy is likely to end forever with diving ...
In surface mode, the submarine is almost no different from other ships.
Unless... you get an opportunity to fire torpedoes slightly sideways from motionless tubes.
Fire torpedoes by pressing the "Spacebar". Compressed air is not wasted.
This completes the basic description of the control of the submarine. Good luck in the battles, captains!
