Smith

Smith-class destroyers were the first ocean-going destroyers in the United States Navy, and a total of 5 were built between the years of 1908 and the 1910.

Smith-class destroyers served between the years of 1909 to 1919.

Preceded by: Truxtun-class destroyer

Succeeded by: Paulding-class destroyer

All five of the Smith class Destroyers served as escorts during World War I, and many engaged U-boats in combat protecting their convoys.
