Mahan-class destroyers were built for the United States Navy during the years of 1934 and 1937. A total of 18 were built, the first 16 being laid down in 1934, and the last two being laid down in 1935. Because of advancements and modifications these last two are often referred to as Dunlap Class Destroyers.
Mahan-class destroyers served between the years of 1936 to 1946.

All of the Mahan-class destroyers served in, and saw action in, the Pacific Theater during World War II. From Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima they were there . From bombarding beachheads, amphibious landings, Anti Aircraft cover, convoy escort and submarine hunting you would find the Mahan there. Six of the eighteen ships were lost in combat.
