Farragut-class destroyers were built for the United States Navy during the years of 1932 to 1935, 12 years after the Clemson was added to the US Navy roster. Only eight Farragut-class destroyers were built.

All eight Farragut's were at the attack on Pearl Harbor, where USS Monaghan sank a Japanese midget submarine. Three of the class were lost in the war, though none of them to enemy fire. Worden ran aground in Alaskan waters in January 1943 and became a total loss, while Hull and Monaghan were lost in a Typhoon in December 1944.
