Niitaka-class cruisers (新高型防護巡洋艦) were built for the Imperial Japanese Navy during the years of 1901 to 1904. Intended for high speed reconnaissance missions, but still larger than her predecessor. There were 2 all of this class built.

Niitaka-class cruisers, Niitaka & Tsushima, participated in the Russo-Japanese War. They both also participated at the Battle of Tsingtao. They both were then assigned to patrol of shipping lanes in Southeast Asia, and in the Indian Ocean. Then, both ships assisted in the Siberian Intervention. Niitaka was lost after running aground in a typhoon on 26 August 1923 on the coast of Kamchatka, while sushima was struck from the navy list in 1936.
