Myōkō-class cruisers (妙高型巡洋艦) were built for the Imperial Japanese Navy during the years of 1924 to 1929. They were a design based on an enlarged version of the Aoba-class cruiser. There were 4 ships built in this class.
Myōkō-class cruisers served between the years of 1928 to 1946.

Myōkō-class cruisers Myōkō,Nachi, Haguro & Ashigara saw extensive combat during the span of their careers. Their combat careers include the First Shanghai Incident, Second Sino-Japanese War, the Invasion of the Philippines, the Battle of the Java Sea, The Solomon Islands campaign, Battle of the Philippine Sea & the Battle of Leyte Gulf to name a few. They fought hard, and had an impressive track record. Only Myōkō survived World War II.
