Oriani-Class Destroyers were built for the built for the Regia Marina during the years of 1935 to 1936. Essentially Maestrale-class destroyers, but with increased machinery power and a different anti-aircraft armament. There are four of this class built.
Oriani-Class Destroyers served between the years of 1937 to 1954.

Oriani-Class Destroyers RM Vittorio Alfieri, Giosue Carducci, Vincenzo Gioberti & Alfredo Oriani saw extensive service during World War II. Two ships were lost 28/3/1941 in battle at Matapan: RM Vittorio Alfieri was sunk by gunfire of British destroyers Greyhound, Havock and Stuart, and RM Giosue Carducci by gunfire of British destroyers Jervis, Nubian and Hotspur. RM Vincenzo Gioberti 9/8/1943 was sunk by British submarine Simoom off La Spezia. RM Alfredo Oriani was the only survivor of World War II.
