HMS Swift was a prototype destroyer leader built for the Royal Navy during the years of 1905 to 1907. Designed as a large ocean-going destroyer capable of high-speed scouting duties.
HMS Swift served between the years of 1910 to 1921.
HMS Swift only significant engagement on the night of 20–21 April 1917, while accompanying the destroyer HMS Broke, engaged a force of six enemy destroyers in the Battle of Dover Strait. In a confused fight she hit SMS G85 with a torpedo while HMS Broke rammed, and became enmeshed with SMS G42. The remaining German ships fled, HMS Swift pursued but took several hits and was compelled to slow. She returned to assist HMS Broke and rescue survivors of SMS G42 before returning to Plymouth.
