Time charter means chartering tugboats and barges for a certain period of time, for example for 3 months or more.
The operator or shipowner will be responsible for providing services at each trip period or specific time through the captain and crew. Furthermore, the charterer will transport the cargo on the ship.
The Freight Charter model only applies to one trip on a specific route. Distances between the port of loading and the port of unloading are the main factors that will affect the freight charter rates.
Several factors determine the high or low freight charter rates, such as the prorated amount, the capacity and size of the barge, the type of channel, etc.
Before the shipment starts, a Naval Agreement Letter (SPAL) will be conducted first. The Agreement is conducted to ensure the security of the shipper and shipowner transactions and is signed by both parties. It forms an agreement that both are subject to the terms and agreement, if there is a dispute in the future, the parties will refer to it.
In charters, there are costs borne by the shipowner operator, including the wages of the ship and captain, ship insurance, surveys, repair and maintenance costs, oil, and others. Meanwhile, the costs borne by the charterer include loading and unloading costs, fuel costs, port disbursement costs, drinking water costs, and others.
