Thanks for this in-depth answer but I am not sure that I understand all of it. I am indeed talking about screensavers. My last Mac automatically showed a series of stunning landscape pictures when it went into screensaver mode. I have looked at the screensaver options on the m2 Ventura, but only see options that of how to display my own photos when in screensaver mode. I would really like those stunning landscape pictures back. Thanks very much for your help.

We understand you are asking about specific pictures to use with your screen saver for your Mac. There wouldn't be any system-specific landscape photos to use with the screen saver. You might mean the desktop wallpaper. First, here's our guide on changing the wallpaper: Customize the desktop picture on your Mac

There are not any system-default landscape pictures to use with your screen saver. You can add some you've saved, downloaded, or taken yourself to your Mac, then use them either with your screen saver or desktop wallpaper. If you have additional questions, reply back here.

If you want to set custom options for the screen saver, select the Options button on the Screen Saver page in System Settings. In the Source drop-down menu select Choose Folder. If you have Windows 10's default, Spotlight feature enabled, your lock screen shows gorgeous images courtesy of Microsoft. Some of these high-quality photos are nature shots while others are pictures of great cities around the world. The pictures rotate several times a day, but what if you see an image you like and want to keep a copy of it on your laptop? Windows keeps these Windows 10 lock screen photos buried deep in a hidden directory, but with a bit of digging, you can find them, save them and even use them as desktop wallpaper.

You'll be presented with a plethora of file names that make absolutely no sense and show no extensions. There's no great method of telling which ones are beautiful photos and which are icons, but you're better off clicking on items with larger file sizes.

Since the introduction of macOS Mojave, Mac desktop backgrounds have gotten a bit more lively and dynamic, adapting to the exact hour of the day. At the same time, Apple moved away from nature wallpapers, leaving us with abstract graphics, which might feel a bit bland.

The process is nearly identical on macOS Ventura: access System Settings > Wallpaper and scroll down to upload your custom folder with images, or choose an album from Photos. Choose Auto-Rotate and set the frequency of rotation.

Wallpaper Wizard was created to rescue your Mac desktop wallpaper and bring beauty and inspiration to it. The automatic rotation function is already built in and you can choose from more than 25,000 high-quality royalty-free images to keep your collection ever-fresh.

You can also create your own Rolls by clicking on the plus icon of specific images. And if you just want one of the beautiful Mac desktop backgrounds from Wallpaper Wizard to be static, simply open it up and choose Set Desktop Picture.

When choosing a custom background, check that it fits the desktop just right. If not, adjust the fit by accessing Desktop & Screen Saver in System Preferences and picking from either Fill Screen, Fit to Screen, Center, etc.

You might be wondering how to change screen saver to something custom. First, you need to find a suitable screen saver and download it. The screen saver should have a .saver file extension. Then, to install it, either double-click on the file or move the file to your Library > Screen Savers folder. Now you should see the new screensaver in the Desktop & Screen Saver list.
