Nature-Based Learning: Early through Elementary Years

Course Description

This course explores the design and facilitation of nature-based learning experiences. Students will examine how outdoor environments nurture curiosity, well-being, creativity, and ecological literacy, and will engage with research-informed strategies, Indigenous perspectives on relationality, and practical approaches for integrating outdoor learning across the curriculum. Through hands-on experiences, reflection, and collaborative design, students will create meaningful and inclusive nature-based learning opportunities in early and elementary years settings.

About me

Mike Link is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg. His research explores nature-based approaches that support student well-being and the transition to a just and sustainable future. Prior to his service as a teacher educator and researcher, Mike taught for 13 years in elementary schools in Abbotsford and Surrey, British Columbia.
