natural resource management under catastrophic threats

In recent years, a growing concern has emerged regarding uncertain abrupt occurrences of catastrophic events associated with anthropogenic activities. Examples include ecosystem collapse and climate change induced calamities such as extreme weather (hurricanes, wild fires, prolong droughts) and tipping point events. These issues are capturing center stage in the research agenda of scientists from a variety of disciplines, including environmental economists and policymakers. The conference brings together leading scholars in the field in order to take stock of where we stand in understanding these significant phenomena and possible policy responses.

בשנים האחרונות עולה החשיבות של נזקים סביבתיים הנגרמים כתוצאה מאירועי קיצון המושפעים מפעילות אנושית. הדוגמאות כוללות קריסת מערכות אקולוגיות, הוריקנים, שריפות ובצורות ממושכות ששכיחותן ועצימותן מושפעות משינויי אקלים וכן אירועי מפנה בלתי הפיכים (הפשרת קרחונים, עלית מפלס המים). ההתמודדות עם סוג זה של נזקים סביבתיים מעלה סוגיות שמעסיקות חוקרים מדיסציפלינות שונות, כולל כלכלני סביבה וקובעי מדיניות סביבתית. הכנס יפגיש חוקרים מובילים בתחום, שידונו בהתפתחויות עדכניות לגבי הבנת הגורמים להתרחשות אירועים אלו וכלי מדיניות אפשריים להתמודדות עמם.
