HH Maharaja Dhiraj RANA BAHADUR SHAH Dev, 3rd Maharaja of Nepal 1777/1798, born about 27th June 1775 (or 25th May 1775) (Ashadh 11, 1832VE), crowned 1st December 1777, assumed power in April 1794, Regent of Nepal 1804/1806, his youth had been spent in pampered luxury amid deadly intrigue and had made him incapable of running either his own life or the country. He became infatuated with a Maithili Brahman widow, Kantavati, and cleared the way to the throne for their son. He was forced to turn his throne over to his son on 13th February 1798, and retired to Banaras as an ascete taking the name Parama Nirgunanand Swami. He returned to Nepal in 1804, becoming mukhtiyar, and ordering the execution of Damodar Pande. Rana Bahadur Shah quarreled in open court with his half-brother, Sher Bahadur, whereupon the latter drew his sword and killed Rana Bahadur Shah before being cut down by a nearby courtier; he was granted the title of Wang by the Chinese Emperor in 1790; he married 1stly, 1789, Rani Raj Rajeswari Vidya Lakshmi [Rajeshwari Devi], sister of Raja Siddhi Pratap Shah of Gulmi, and grand daughter of Raja Shiva Shah of Gulmi, Regent of Nepal 1799/1800 and 1802/1804, died sp 4th May 1806, married 2ndly, 1791, Bhogya Rani Subarna Prabha, Regent of Nepal 1800/1802, married 3rdly, January 1797, Rani Kantavati Mati, daughter of a Brahmin of the Mishra caste, died 31st November 1799 (Kartik Sudi 4, 1856VE), married 4thly, Rani Chandravati, married 5thly, Rani Amar Rajeshwari Devi, married 6thly, 1804, Rani Lalita Tripura Sundari Devi (née Thapa), born 1793/4, Regent of Nepal 1806/1832, died 1st April 1832, possibly daughter of Sri Kaji Nayan Singh Thapa, and had issue. HM King BIRENDRA BIR BIKRAM SHAH Dev, 9th King of Nepal 1972/2001, born 28th December 1945 in Narayanhity Royal Palace, married 2nd May 1969 in Kathmandu, HM Queen Aishwarya Rajya Lakshmi Devi, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Kendra Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, and had issue. He died 1st June 2001 in Narayanhity Royal Palace.

HRH Princess Shruti Rajya Lakshmi Devi B.A., born 15th October 1976, educated at Mayo Girl’s College, Ajmer, India and at St Mary’s High School, Kathmandu; she earned a black-belt in judo from the National Police Training Centre in March 1999; married 8th May 1997 in Kathmandu, Kumar Gorakh Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana of Nepal, and had issue, two daughters. She died 1st June 2001, at the Narayanhity Royal Palace.
HRH Prince Niranjan Bir Bikram Shah Dev, born 6th November 1978, educated at the Kanti Ishwari Shishu Vidyalaya, Budhanilkantha School and St Xavier’s School, he briefly attended Eton College in England and returned to Nepal to study for a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (BBA) at the Kathmandu School of Management; he was a junior swimming champion at the Budhanilkantha School; died unmarried 1st June 2001, at the Narayanhity Royal Palace.
HM King DIPENDRA BIR BIKRAM SHAH Dev, 10th King of Nepal [1.6.2001] - [4.6.2001], born 27th June 1971, died sp on 4th June 2001. 12th King of Nepal for three days in June 2001.

He died 1st June 2001.
